Everyone thinks of the family in a certain image. In the past, the father would be responsible for all the family needs. The mother would stay home to do the cooking, take care of the house and kids. The children would go to school and after walk home with friends.
Some household today may not be a spouse living in the home, these days can be hard to manage on a single income. A lot of women are taking the roll of the head of the household, that leaves a void in the home that has to be made up. It leaves the older child in the home caring for the younger siblings, doing the house work, cooking and other things that would normally be with the responsibilities of the parents. It is not the vision we remember in the story books about family.
The family and life we use to read about as a child is not how life is.
